舞ikoの叫び- Maiko Iko no sakebi

The appearance that Westerners relate to that of a geisha is rather that of a maiko,

 with her heavy white makeup, her complicated hairstyle and her colorful kimono,

 because the older the geisha is, the simpler her outfit,

 her hairstyle and her makeup.

 Even in Japan there are services for tourists to take pictures

"disguised as geisha" / called maiko henshin), when they really look like a maiko.

Geishas only wear white makeup on very special occasions.

During the period of their erikae, the maiko's teeth are painted black as

a symbol of beauty.
